BACKGROUND
You might have heard about Direct Scholar when they held a sweepstakes for a $10,000 scholarship. The sweepstakes has ended, but Direct Scholar is still a great resource from which to explore the schools that are offering courses within your area of interest. If you are not certain which field you may eventually choose, simply choose from among your favorites.  Direct Scholar works with many colleges and schools who will forward information to you about your requested study programs. Most of the educational institutions they point you toward will offer online degree programs, with degrees, certificates and diplomas available.

On their home page you are asked to select a desired degree and to choose an area of interest from among the following categories. This query will take you to a page where you will confirm your level of interest and agree to accept additional information from any number of campuses.

CON
- You will not be able to peruse through information at this point
- Placement on mailing lists for schools

EXPENSE
Direct Scholar is a free service.

You can choose from these major areas of interest:

SCHOOLS
There is no current way to access all of the schools and colleges within Direct Scholar's database. However, three schools are featured on the site- PCDI, Kaplan University and Florida Metropolitan University. These have most likely paid for placement.

STUDENT LIFE
Campus life will vary according to the institution you ultimately choose from Direct Scholar. Online educational facilities normally offer a combination of chat rooms, forums and instructor contact. Educational support communities are also available online from many varying sources.

CONCLUSION

This type of service can best be utilized when you are in the research phase of identifying a college or university offer what, campus features or the specialty you may eventuality want to pursue. I felt like it was a good way to research potential careers, but I was also worried that the website was going to direct me in a direction that I didn't want to go, as far as my career options go. Did anyone else feel that way too? posted Jul 14th, 2008 12:51 pm
