After the premiere of the popular television show The Secret Life of the American Teenager, teen pregnancy is slowly becoming more socially acceptable. Surprisingly, parents are finding themselves encouraging safe sex campaigns sponsored by Planned Parenthood as opposed to abstinence only campaigns endorsed in the past.
Yet despite the new lax on society morals, controversy comes into the media again as the popular teen clothing line chain Forever 21 launches a new maternity line called Love 21.
Love 21 will be in Texas, California, Arizona, Alaska and Utah this month. Three of those states have traditionally high rates of teen pregnancy, however Larry Meyer, Forever 21 Executive Vice President told the press that, “any connection between the locations of stores carrying the line and pregnancy rates is a coincidence.”
The branding of the company is marketed to trendy teens on a budget, so it comes as no surprise that parents are worrying that their clothing is attempting to glamorize or make teenage pregnancy trendy.
The next question is how fast will Forever 21 book Bristol Palin as their new spokes-model for the line?

I’m 26 years old, I’m pregnant with our 2nd child, I’m so glad there is a place I can shop that has trendy clothing for pregnant women that dont cost an arm and a leg. I cant find anything thats cute or even fits me at motherhood. I’m very skinny to begin with so shopping at womens clothing stores dont work for me. Having a store called forever21 doesnt mean that only teens shop there, I wouldnt let my girls wear alot of things they carry there to school. When the store first came to my home town, it was known for clubing type clothing. I just wish there was more of a selection of the Love21 online.

Because Forever 21 is highly coveted by teens doesn’t mean that just only teens wear their clothing line! I’m 25 years old and I love wearing this line. It doesn’t hurt for a company to want to broaden their audience. I don’t really think they had teen moms in mind.

Wow! I personally would love a Forever 21 maternity line, but I am not a teen!

I’m in my 4th month of my pregnancy and am loving it! Simply being pregnant is a really wonderful experience. There’s going to be not one thing more important in this entire world than holding my new born infant in my arms for that first time. I can’t wait to meet her! My dreams of parenthood is definitely finally coming true.
