Tom Cruise’s Education Background

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, aka Tom Cruise, is an American actor who was born on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York. Cruise is the third child of Mary Lee and Thomas Cruise Mapother III. He has two older sisters, Lee Anne and Marian, and a younger sister, Cass.

In 2006, Cruise married his third wife, Katie Holmes, amid much speculation that the marriage was a publicity stunt. Cruise has also been questioned for his support and adherence to the Church of Scientology. EDUinReview will now take a look at this somewhat-controversial actor’s education background.

Cruise did not have much stability in his early life, and as a result, he attended eight different elementary schools and three different high schools. He attended Robert Hopkins Public Schools during third, fourth, and fifth grade. He attended Henry Munro Middle school during sixth grade. It was at this time that Cruise became involved in athletics. He was a very competitive and talented floor hockey player, and chipped his tooth during a game.

In addition to becoming involved with athletics, Cruise tried his hand in the drama department.  He earned the co-lead in a school production of IT. The play was so successful that it went on tour to various schools in the area and was filmed at a local television station.

In high school, he was a varsity football linebacker. However, he was kicked off the team when he was caught drinking beer before a game.

Cruise first appeared on the big screen in 1981 when he played a supporting role in Endless Love and Taps. In 1983, Cruise made a name for himself when he stared in Risky Business and cemented his celebrity status in 1986 when he starred in Top Gun. In 1988, he co-stared in Rain Man with Dustin Hoffman. In 1994, he starred in Interview with the Vampire alongside Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas. He has also stared in the Mission Impossible movies, Jerry Maguire, Vanilla Sky, The Last Samurai, War of the Worlds, and most recently, Knight and Day.

He is currently filming Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. He is rumored to be involved in Rock of Ages, which is scheduled to be released in 2012, and The Hardy Men, which is scheduled to be released in 2013.
