Alliance for a Healthier Generation to Provide Healthy School Lunches to 30 Million

Alliance for a Healthier GenerationThe Alliance for a Healthier Generation is working to address one of the most serious health problems facing Americans today: childhood obesity. They’re working with more than 10,000 schools nationwide to provide tools and resources to make lunches healthier for kids.

The Alliance just announced that they have made agreements with 13 leading providers of school meals to develop healthier and more nutritious school meals. This collaboration will lower the cost of improved meals, one of the biggest barriers facing school when budget in the most at-need school are tight. According to the Alliance for a Healthier Generation website, “these agreements will benefit more than 30 million students and result in real impact as young people consume up to 50 percent of their daily calories at school.”

The site has other programs to help provide schools with better options. They are working to help schools join Group Purchasing Organizations to reduce costs and helping schools find healthier products and ingredients. Alliance for a Healthier Generation also has a wealth of resources for parents, doctors and even communities to help improve kid’s lives and fight childhood obesity.
