Miss America Teresa Scanlan’s Education Background

Brains and beauty? Obviously nobody ever told the newest Miss America that you can’t have both, because she definitely has the combination.

Teresa Scanlan, 17-years old, was crowned Miss America on January 15, 2011. Scanlan represented Nebraska in the beauty pageant and is the first contestant from that state to become Miss America. EDUinReview will now take a look at this beautiful woman’s education background and future.

Scanlan recently graduated from high school in Gering, Nebraska where she was home-schooled for most of her life. During the second semester of her junior year, she started attending Gering High School. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School, ahead of schedule, because she took a double load of classes throughout high school.

Scanlan is the youngest woman to win this pageant since an age limit was implemented in 1938. However, her age did not put her at any disadvantage. During the pageant, Scanlan impressed the judges by playing the piano, turning heads in her evening wear, and speaking her mind on politics. She also expressed her desire to attend law school and eventually become a politician.

Scanlan is now a step closer to her dream, thanks to the $50,000 scholarship she won along with her new title. The first runner-up, Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady, won a $25,000 scholarship, and Miss Hawaii Jalee Fuselier received a $20,000 scholarship for third place. The Miss America Organization claims to the be the largest scholarship provider for women in the country. This year, the organization will give away $349,000 in prizes.

It’s not surprising that Miss America is smart. I think those interview questions are tough and you have to be well-read to answer them.
