50 Cent’s Education Background

50 Cent HeadshotCurtis James Jackson III was born on July 6, 1975. Jackson, better known by his stage name, 50 Cent, was raised in  the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens in New York City. 50 Cent was raised without a father by his mother Sabrina. 50 Cent’s mother was 15 when she gave birth to her son. She was also a cocaine dealer who was eventually murdered in 1988. At that time 50 Cent went to live with his grandparents and his eight aunts and uncles.

50 Cent attended Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, New York. On June 29, 1994, he was arrested for selling drugs and possession. He served six months in a shock incarceration boot camp where he earned his GED. He did not attend college.

50 Cent left drug dealing and began to pursue his rap career. During this early period he was shot and struck nine times in 2000. The artist recovered and continued on his journey to becoming a rap star. In 2002 50 Cent released his album, Guess Who’s Back? He was noticed by rapper Eminem and signed with Interscope Records.  50 Cent received some help as he furthered his career from Eminem and rapper Dr. Dre and led 50 Cent to his first commercial success. He rose to fame with the release of his albums Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2003) and The Massacre (2005).

In 2003, 50 Cent founded his own record label titled, G-Unit Record. G-Unit has since signed several rappers such as Young Buck, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. 50 Cent’s albums have reached multiple platinum levels and sold several million copies world wide. 50 Cent has become one of the world’s highest selling rappers.
