Azaria was born on April 25, 1964 in Forest Hills, New York. His parents were Sephardic Jews from Thessaloniki, Greece, and he has two older sisters, Stephanie and Elise. His first acting job was advertising Italian television when he was 17-years old. Azaria graduated from The Kew-Forest School, and then went on to study drama at Tufts University and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. While in college, he starred in several school productions, including The Merchant of Venice, and had dreams of being a theatre actor. However, after several years of working as a bartender, he realized that he preferred television acting and moved to Los Angeles.

Once in LA, Azaria made a name for himself as a stand-up comedian. When he was 25-years old, he joined the cast of The Simpsons, where he originally voiced Moe Szyslak, a gravelly-voiced bartender. He continues to voice Moe and several other characters on the widely popular show today.

In addition to The Simpsons, Azaria has appeared in Pretty Woman, Godzilla, Mystery Men, America’s Sweethearts, Dodgeball, and Love and Other Drugs; he also voiced Bartok in the animated film Anastasia and it’s follow-up film, Bartok the Magnificent.

On a personal note, Azaria has been dating Katie Wright since 2007 and the couple has one son, Hal. Azaria enjoys playing poker and has appeared on Celebrity Poker Showdown twice. If he was not an actor, Azaria has expressed the desire to be a therapist, which would require him to return to school to pursue higher education.
