Ron Howard’s Education Background

Actor and Director Ron HowardRonald William “Ron” Howard was born on March 1, 1954 in Duncan, Oklahoma. Ron’s parents are Rance Howard, a director, writer, and actor, and Jean Speegle Howard, a actress. Ron has one younger brother, Clint.

The family moved to Hollywood, California in 1958 in anticipation of the success of The Andy Griffith Show. Young Ron had been cast for the series. The pilot was a success and the family eventually moved to Burbank, California. Howard was tutored at the studio in his primary years. He graduated from John Burroughs High School in Burbank. Later Howard attended the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. He did not graduate.

Howard’s career as an actor was booming from the time he was about five years old. His most notable role was that of Opie Taylor on the CBS series, The Andy Griffith Show. The series ran for eight seasons. Howard also starred in other projects throughout his childhood. Howard was cast in television and and film roles as a child. As he aged his next iconic role was that of teenager Richie Cunningham in the series Happy Days which began in 1974. The sitcom ran for ten years.

These popular roles established Ron Howard as a star. While he continues to act his interest in directing also consumed his time. Beginning with low-budget small films, Howard paved the way to his next big venture. Eventually Howard became one of the most famous directors of all time.

Some of Howard’s films include Splash, Parenthood, Cocoon, Willow, Backdraft, Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind. Howard has also directed and produced several television shows throughout the years including the FOX series Arrested Development and the current NBC drama, Parenthood. Howard has received many honors as a director including an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind.

Howard has been married to his wife Cheryl since 1975 and the couple has four children and one grandchild. They reside in Connecticut.
