College Dating Website Accused of Prostitution

The dating website SeekingArrangement.com matches college students with older men and women. The website lures struggling students or “sugar babies” into dating much older and financially secure “sugar daddies” or “sugar mommies” in the possible exchange of money.

Their website reads:

To the sugar daddy or mommy: “Single or married, you have no time for games. You are looking to mentor or spoil someone special — perhaps a ‘personal secretary’? Secret lover? Student? Or a mistress for an extra-marital affair?”

And to the sugar baby: “Sugar babes are college students, aspiring actresses or someone just starting out. You seek a generous Benefactor to pamper, mentor and take care of you — perhaps to help you financially.”

Taylor was once a sugar baby. The 22-year old Hunter College student was $15,000 in debt and looked to Seeking Arrangement as a means to pay for college.

She said, “I just wanted to get out of that situation as safely as possible, pay off my debt, and move on.”

She traveled to Greenwich, Conn. to meet her sugar daddy. Though the older wealthy man advertised his age as 42, Taylor said he looked at least 30 years older than her.

“I never thought it would come to this. I got on the train and I felt dirty. I mean, I had just gotten money for having sex,” Taylor said. “I guess I accomplished what I needed to do. I needed the money for school. I just did what needed to be done.”

While Seeking Arrangement may have helped her do “what needed to be done,” the website is accused of promoting the world’s oldest profession.

However, it’s unclear if the operations of this borderline-digital brothel are illegal, said Las Vegas lawyer Allen Lichtenstein.

He said, “Any relationship that is an ongoing one that’s not purely about sex but may have a sexual aspect to it, you can’t really classify as prostitution.”
