Statistics from Texting and Driving Safety’s website say that 77% of young adults are confident that they can text safely while driving. Despite this statistic, fatal car accidents have been caused by texting and driving. The world’s most successful phone company, AT&T has released a texting and driving documentary called, “The Last Text.”

“The Last Text” features four people whose lives have been impacted by a simple text message. The names of the individuals featured in the documentary are not mentioned, but if you take ten minutes of your time to watch the documentary you will think twice before texting and driving.

The documentary opens up with a highway patrol officer who talks about his encounters with multiple fatal accidents caused by texting. The officer has to pause for a second during the documentary because he becomes emotional discussing the young lives lost. Read the rest of this entry »

Middle school students at Pottsdam Middle School in Pennsylvania can now add Uggs boots to the list of clothing items that may not be worn to school. It’s common knowledge that many schools have dress codes which prevent the wearing of some articles of clothing, such as baseball caps and extremely baggy pants, but I have never heard of a school banning a particular brand of shoes before.

According to the school, the shoes were causing problems…or more appropriately, it was the items that students were bringing into the school – hidden inside their shoes – that was causing the problems. Many students were hiding their cell phones in their furry boots and then texting during class. After several students were caught in the act, the school decided to ban the shoes in order to address the issue.

Some parents are quite upset about this new banned article of clothing. In addition to the ban being “totally ridiculous,” according to a Facebook post by a parent, some people are saying that the Ugg-ban is sexist against girls, who are the main wearers of the shoes.

“Pockets, bras, socks, what’s next?” one parent wrote on Facebook.

What would you think if, on the first day of school, your teacher told you to take your phone out and prepare to learn, instead of threatening to throw your phone away if you used it during class?

Personally, I’d be shocked. As far as I knew, all teachers thought cell phones were pure evil. But evidently, I was wrong.
