The following five games are ones believed will have the biggest impact on the season, and more importantly, be the most entertaining for fans. Several that didn’t make the list include Oklahoma-Miami, Florida-Florida St., and USC-Notre Dame.

5. Utah @ Oregon, Sept. 19th

Utah had a huge Sugar Bowl win over Alabama, and is coming off an undefeated season. This game will be Utah’s one chance this season to show what it’s made of outside the conference, while Oregon will have already played Boise State. If the Ducks beat Boise, this game will launch a potential top-10 team into conference play. If the Ducks lose to Boise, this game will be even bigger; it would be a must-win to keep the Ducks BCS hopes alive.

4. Oregon @ Boise State, Sept. 5th

Last season Boise State won a 37-32 thriller against the Ducks. This season, Oregon is considered a top 10-15 team and the Pac-10’s best chance to knock USC from the top of the conference, so a Duck win here would be huge. Jeremiah Masoli and LeGarrette Blount will lead a strong Oregon team, but Boise State “is loaded and a legit BCS threat. If the Broncos can get another big win over Oregon to open the season, they will be primed for another undefeated run and a shot at a BCS bowl.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Southeastern Conference released this month an updated media plan in which they banned the mention of any event details via social media.

“Ticketed fans can’t produce or disseminate (or aid in producing or disseminating) any material or information about the Event, including, but not limited to, any account, description, picture, video, audio, reproduction or other information concerning the Event,” per the SEC’s new media plan.

What does this mean in layman’s terms? No one can Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or publish at any other social media site details about the games they are attending, as this may compete with authorized media coverage. And unless you can beat the $3 billion deal that the SEC has with CBS for the next 15 years, then you’re likely not authorized. Read the rest of this entry »

Despite the size of crowds that Florida State University coach Bobby Bowden can draw, it has been a decade since FSU, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference or ACC, has won the national championship. What’s more, is it’s been nine seasons since a conference team (also FSU) played in the title game. Before Virginia Tech defeated Cincinnati in January at the FedEx Orange Bowl, the ACC hadn’t even won a BCS bowl game this century.

“But if the Chicago Cubs – who haven’t won a World Series since 1908 – can dream, so can the ACC.”

The addition of Virginia Tech and Miami in 2004 and then with Boston College in 2005, the ACC was supposed to become college football’s bully. Instead, it became a national punching bag. Read the rest of this entry »

This weekend the College Football Hall of Fame will induct its newest class of players, recognizing those who were outstanding performers during their days in playing for their alma maters.

Both players and coaches are eligible for induction. This year there are 17 players and 4 coaches being recognized by the College Football Hall of Fame.

Some of the players include:

If you think the school is picking up the tab on all those torn tendons, broken bones and other injuries that are commonplace amongst college athletes, think again. College athletes are amongst those that are burdened with extensive medical bills. Take for example a rower at Colgate University who is strapped with $80,000 in medical bills for back and leg pain. The end of the school year brings much anticipated competition to the collegiate world of baseball. Every May, 64 college baseball programs are chosen by their ranks to compete for the right to play a series in the famous Rosenblatt Stadium in Nebraska, the location for the final round of the College World Series.

The year’s playoffs began this weekend with regional play at 16 different college campuses around the country. The hosting schools were the Texas, Texas Christian University, Georgia Tech, Florida, Arizona State, Clemson, East Carolina, North Carolina, Cal State Fullerton, Louisville, Florida State, Oklahoma, California Irvine, Mississippi, Rice, and Louisiana State.  Read the rest of this entry »

North Carolina took it all the way this season, making it clear to Michigan State that they were number one for a reason. North Carolina beat Michigan State 89-72, securing their fifth NCAA basketball title.
