HISTORY
The sorority of Alpha Phi was started on the campus of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York in 1872. Alpha Phi was actually the fourth Greek organization founded for women. At the time Alpha Phi was formed, there were 20 women attending Syracuse University, and 10 of them joined the sorority.alpha phi sorority

Alpha Phi was founded on the strong attributes of promoting growth in character, sisterly affection, unity of feeling and social communion among members. The founding members of Alpha Phi are Martha Emily Foote Crow, Rena A. Michaels Atchison, Clara Bradley Baker Wheeler Burdette, Jane Sara Higham, Hattie Florence Chidester Lukens, Ida Arabella Gilbert DeLamanter Houghton, Clara Sittser Williams, Kate Elizabeth Hogoboom Gilbert, Louise Viola Shepard Hancock and Elizabeth Grace Hubbell Shults.

Alpha Phi, Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Gamma Delta are the three sororities that were all founded on the campus of Syracuse University, creating what is known as the Syracuse Triad. Written within the constitution of the Alpha Phi sorority are the objectives of promoting growth of character, obeying God’s principles and being sincere searchers of the truth. Alpha Phi members are always eager to lend a helping hand to those that might need it.

The international philanthropic cause for Alpha Phi is the Alpha Phi Foundation.
