This school was horrible, I asked for help on several occasions and was told yes we'll else you but on the days I could stay they couldn't help. I also worked at night. I can't believe that the teacher ms Bertrand allowed her students to belittle students and kick teammates off of teams when they had done Thier work and allowed other classmates take credit for work that wasn't theres. I quit because of the unfairness that was done to me and I believe I should get my money back. Also Mr clemens who was another teacher there passing his students off with D's when there grades clearly were F's .the back stabbings were ridiculous as well as students getting teachers fired and the drama, do I believe ms Bertrand should be fired..? No but she should be made to apologize for letting 2 other students cheat and get credit for my work . posted Sep 12th, 2015 12:28 am

I hadn't been back to school in a long time so studying was hard at first. One of my instructors stayed after class every day until I got better study habits. I wish they did more fun things like student events and stuff though. southgate mi campus.. If I can save anyone from going to this school I would be saving them money, time, & stress. The teachers sit back, watch the clock, & basicly babysit the students. There is no authority in the building. They change their attendance rules & policy's like you would use tissue with a bad cold. They are in business to make money & not to provide education. Half the classes don't have the supplies needed so we pretend to do procedures when the teachers decide to teach. Please stay away. Think twice! Please do your research. Talk to current students first & listen to their storys. Do not talk to the money hungry unorganized staff. Go to a better school even if the programs longer. It would be worth it I promise you! My car was stole and my books were in it I had to come up with the money to buy new books. I meet a lot of people that I still keep in touch with now and we all either work at group homes or private duty making crumbs and then the company for your loan is always haressing you bout when and how you can pay back the loan. You dont make enough to pay bills.. Dorsey is a joke and that's coming from a graduate that had a 4 and 2 year old and was 6 months pregnant when I went to my crappy externship at Sinai Grace. I graduated from Dorsey for dialysis Tech. When I signed they made me feel like they had it all together yet when I finished they did not have a dialysis site for extership for all of the students so most of us went out as pct's. Now, mind you they knew you could not take your dialysis certification without a dialysis externship. I feel scammed and hurt a whole year of sacrifice for nothing. Oh don't let me forget the tuiton is over $17,000 dollars. I will also be writing to congress. It is not right how can you pay back an loan with no job. I read all of your negitive reviews as well as the positive ones. I have to disagree! Dorsey is affiliated with Beaumont hospital , the Doctors Clinic and many more. Because of your negitive reviews , I did my own research and found your information to be false. I really suggest that when anyone is thinking about going to a collage, carreer center or trade school , you shouldn't believe every thing you read! Do your own reaserch and you'll be amazed how badly peaple lie. Remember your not in kindergarden any more. I agree with them allowing anyone to go. People who they clearly know will not meet the standards that the hospital or people who have certain disabilities (putting that as nicely as possible.) And the school is well aware that they will have trouble getting through the program. I went to Madison Heights for PCT and had a lady in my class that was a little slow. After being pulled out of the class multiple times by the director and discussed and a class room next door that she needs to get her HOW up or she would lose her financial aid she dropped out. It was unprofessional for her to be pulled out of class for that discussion in a class room where everyone could hear. The medical field can be challenging and I feel like they completely take advantage of people.

The director is NOT professional even though she lectures students like they are kids how they need to be professional. I am not sure here understanding of being professional is what being professional is all about. posted Sep 27th, 2011 6:29 am

I am one of the 2010 graduates for Medical Assistant Specialist program at Dorsey Schools in Waterford/Pontiac. I graduated with a 3.72 GPA and was on the Director's List all year. My experience at Dorsey was the greatest. The teachers were awesome. The faculty is loving and cared greatly about their students. The teachers did the best they could to help who was in need always giving 100%. I know they cared about our education just as much as we did, maybe more. They were always available for us when we needed them before or after class. After I graduated, I finally started my job whcih was the hardest part for me. My counselor helped me find jobs, set up interviews, and gave me pep talks after some disappointments to boost my self estreem and keep me going. If I could go back, there is nothing I would change. I have no regrets. I proudly recommend Dorsey to anybody who wants a change in their career and life. I attend the Southgate Dorsey Campus and there are good and bad things I can say about the school. It is true that the teachers don't always have degrees but most of the teachers do have experience as nurses and things like that. Most of the teachers try their best to teach the students as much as possible in such a short amount of time but there are always exceptions. I can't believe the story about not getting the books you need for your classes. That's terrible. The Southgate campus has less students but it's a small building too so that isn't the best. I don't think I have ever heard of a classroom with 3 different subjects and teachers in it before. Thats kind of strange. So many people from Baker and Everest have switched to Dorsey so that makes me wonder how good those schools are. I hear good and bad about most schools. I'm sure the Roseville campus is better now that Mr. Thisse is there. He was a great instructor. I've learned a lot from most of the my teachers at Southgate Dorsey Campus but I have yet to go out on externship so hopefully it goes well. At Southgate, they use to have to have 100 blood draws to sit for the Phlebotomy testing but now it's 25 so that was a dramatic difference. It sucks to see so many people who have had trouble with Dorsey and I hope that things work out for all of you and that Dorsey will improve most of their problems over time. posted Feb 1st, 2011 1:41 pm

I am a current student at the madison heights campus. I regret ever enrolling in this school! The so called "counselor" who I met with (dan) lied to me, and told me that we would be getting all kinds of things like ipods, and computers. Not only that, he told me that the instructors would take their time to teach us everything we dont know. I have not learned anyhting in this school! each class ive had has had 24-35 students shoved into 1 classroom, and 2 to 3 different instructors in that same class room teaching 3 different courses. It has been impossible to learn when theres 3 different subjects being tought in the same room! The only good instructor there is Mrs. Smithe, who by the way is taken advantage of by the school, and run raggid by being forced to do all the other teachers work! I now owe so much money to financial aid, and Ive learned nothing! The people there are nothing but liars, and thieves!!! I strongly suggest that no one go to this school. I started in May,,, they are supposed to be a medical school, yet they have ran out of hand sanitizer since june. I have complained and to this day, theres still no hand sanitizer in any of the dispensing machines, and tha bathrooms are filthy!!! One of the instructors there who tought the resume writing class, was so horrible, that she wouldnt even help us with our work. half her class went to someone else for help! Then because I complained about her, she gave me an incomplete on my report card when i got all A's in her class and still have ALL my work to prove it. Ive complained to corporate repeatedly, and they have done nothing. I want something done! this school is a rip off!!!!!! posted Jan 3rd, 2011 10:48 am

Also they say that when you refer someone and they successfully complete their first mod, you will get an IPOD. That is an outright lie. I finshed my first mod in February and the girl that referred me STILL HAS NOT GOTTEN HER IPOD. They told her it was to late to get it because she waited to long. Dorsey is a poor excuse for a school

Thumbs Down

I am currently a Dorsey student at the Roseville campus. I start my externship on Monday. If you are thinking about going to Dorsey, I would seriously re-think your decision and go to a different school... like Baker. Dorsey does not care about their students at all. I have had 3 deaths in the family this year and you would think they would give bereveament days that would not count against your attendance. Guess again. They dont give out any excused abscences unless you are locked up or are supoened. You dont even get time off for surgery. Also, almost all the teachers there (besides a few good ones) have no idea what they are talking about. My A&P 2 Ms. Robinson teacher did not teach at all, I had to teach myself. Basically all the teachers besides 2 really good ones got their degree's out of a crackerjack box. They dont know how to teach. My one teacher Mrs. Hackel taught us the wrong way to draw blood and give an intradermal injection. The staff does not care, especailly the Academic Dean, Kathy Bogl. When you go to her with a problem, she doesnt take care of it. So I went to corporate to get my problem fixed and Kathy Bogl and Mark Young got extremly defensive. Chrisanne Palmer, Melissa South, and Kathy Bogl have stuck-up, holier-than-tho attitudes with the students, all 3 talk down to students and Chrisanne Palmer basically falied one of my close friends because she didnt like her and because of that they failed her over a blood pressure proficieny. With any proficencies you get 3 tries. My friend was on her 3rd try and they rushed her through her proficiency the last ten minutes of class, so of course she was rushed and she failed. So I called corporate and someone told Mark Young at the Roseville campus that I called and he called me. It looked like he was going to pass her. But it was all just a front. She went in today after her final to do her proficiency. They had her practice like 30 times. And when she practiced she was dead on. You would think they would count 3 of those as her proficiency. NOPE. They made her do 3 more and Ms. Kelly tried telling her that she was wrong. Kathy Bogl even tells students that she wouldnt even let them take care of her mother. A dean SHOULD NEVER say that to a student.. But why not pass my friend when Ms Horn passed a girl and she didnt even watch her do her proficiencies and some teachers like Mrs. Hackel and Mrs. Palmer sign students off of proficiences that they have never done. The teachers dont teach(besides the 2 that are really good) All the teachers are in their little "groups" and they stick up for each other. They make Dorsey look so nice and if you ask about anything, they cover it up and lie. If you only knew what was going on at Dorsey. I could have them shut down in a heart beat. Trust me, it isnt worth your time and its certainly not worth all the money. DORSEY SCHOOLS IS A JOKE. I wasted a years worth of my life, $16,000 and im not even sure I will be able to find a job. I am a former instructor with Dorsey schools. They are truly scamming their students and charging large amounts of money for substandard training. I could not take the students getting robbed any further. They lie and try to make their students think they are getting quality education, when all they will make is maybe 12.00 per hour. How can they pay back loans. I am on a campaign to stop this madness. I am writing a letter to congress and will have a number of Dorsey grads- join me to testify about their earning since having graduated and their ability to pay back such a large tuition. I do not hold a grudge, and I left on good terms with Dorsey, I just chose not to return. I have a Master's Degree and just couldn't see people struggling and wasting their money on an education that could be supplied in vocational school. PEOPLE, please don't waste your money. I will be posting on other sites as well, and will create a website for those interested in joining me to protest this injustice. Poor struggling people do not deserve this. There are no shortcuts - go to college, its tough to get through those gen ed classes but it will pay off more in the end, and your earning potential will be greater. Also, the climate of student is non-selective. They recruit anyone in order to get numbers!

Look for more posts from other Dorsey instructors and grads. We have to stop what is going on.

I have attended Dorsey since November of 2009 for Dialysis Tech. We were all lied to about what we were able to certify for when we finished. We lacked almost all of our supplies that we needed, and now with two weeks left before externship, they have nowhere to place us. They are unorganized, unselective of who they let in. I have only met maybe 2 people out of the whole staff who actually care about the students and care about what we are learning.

Davita Dialysis, which is the biggest hiring company in the field I am going for, wants nothing to do with dorsey graduates. Therefore I pretty much have wasted a year of my life for nothing, because without the externship I cannot certify and with no place wanting anyone from Dorsey, I will not be able to find a job. This place is a joke! I advise anyone considering attending this school, to rethink their choice and contact Baker College. Which is where I will be going after all this so I can possibly find a job. posted Oct 20th, 2010 10:01 pm
