Mandatory Sex Education in the UK

Sarah Palin’s pregnant teenage daughter Bristol has caused renewed discussion in the issue of sex education in schools — especially since Governor Palin opposes all sex education programs that teach anything other than abstinence. In the U.S., this issue has been controversial for quite some time, and it has been in England as well. However, in response to rising teen pregnancy rates, the UK has implemented a decision that’s delighted many parents and shocked others — they’ve made sex education mandatory in the English public schools.

So what do you think?  Should schools be required to teach sex education in the U.S. as well as in the UK?  Or is this undermining the rights of parents?
