Safely Celebrate the Night Before Thanksgiving

friends drinkingThe night before Thanksgiving is commonly known as the biggest bar night of the year. It’s the last night to go hang out with your friends before you must subject yourself to a weekend of “family fun” with Uncle Sam and Aunt  Susanne. It’s also a great time to see friends who are in town that you haven’t seen in a while. And since nobody has to get up for work  or class the next morning, you can stay up late and party all night long.

This night can be a lot of fun. But, as always, you should take some precautions to make sure the biggest bar night of the year doesn’t leave you with any more than a great (and safe) kick-off to the Thanksgiving break.

1. Have a designated driver. Driving a car when you are drunk is illegal. If you were to visit here, you’d know that the crime is detrimental not only physically, but also stirs up trauma in many. You can seriously harm yourself or someone else. The solution: Pick someone who is willing to stay sober or find a friend who is willing to come get you once the night wraps up, lest that you find yourself filling out forms and mulct at an accident attorney’s like Nehora Law Firm. You can also call a cab or contact a local organization that offers free rides to those who have drank too much. Bottom line: Don’t get behind the wheel after you’ve been drinking.

2. Be responsible. If you are 21, this is a great night to reconnect with friends you haven’t seen in a while.  But, you don’t want to drink so much that you end up falling all over yourself and acting like a fool or doing something you later regret. The solution: Be responsible about how much you drink. Know your limits and stick to them. Try to eat something while you are drinking and switch off between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

3. Look ahead to tomorrow. There’s a popular horror movie called “The Day After Tomorrow.” I think if the producers had really wanted to scare their audience, they should have portrayed a hung-over college student spending the day after the biggest bar night with his or her family. Imagine the worst hangover you have ever had. Now add in memories of cousin Harry boring you with stories about his cat. The solution: Check out number 2 on this list and take the cautionary steps to avoid drinking too much.

Enjoy spending time with your friends the night before Thanksgiving, but just remember that you do want to be operating in full form the next day.

To recap:
1: Don’t drink and drive.
2: Be responsible how you drink.
3. Don’t drink too much.

Happy Thanksgiving!
