For seven innings, it looked like the Florida State Seminoles were going to survive an error-filled game that would have eliminated them from the College World Series.

In the eighth inning, they finally paid for their mistakes in a big way.

With the count full and two outs, Texas Christian’s Matt Curry blasted a grand slam over the center-field batters eye and turned a 7-5 deficit into a 9-7 lead. TCU won 11-7 and eliminated the ‘Noles from the CWS.

Florida State had jumped out to a 7-2 lead through five innings despite making four errors in that span. But when Jantzen Witte reached base on another error to open the eighth inning, it eventually cost FSU.

Down 7-4, Bryan Holaday doubled in a run to make it 7-5 and after a walk loaded the bases, Curry delivered.

TCU wasn’t done. Witte hit a two-run blast deep into the left-field bleachers to make it 11-7.

Florida State had one last great chance in the bottom of the eighth, but after loading the bases with one out, Sherman Johnson struck out and Mike McGee, who allowed Curry’s slam and lined softly to second.

Earlier in the day, Oklahoma and Clemson finished their suspended game, and the Tigers were able to hold off the Sooners 6-4. After cruising through three innings and up 1-0, Oklahoma starter Bobby Shore had a disastrous fourth. He threw 14 straight balls to open the frame, and with the bases loaded, gave up a single to John Hinson to tie the score and end his night.

After a sacrifice fly gave Clemson the lead, Spencer Kieboom drove in a pair of runs with a single. Later, Hinson hit another single to extend the lead to 6-1.

The Sooners tried to blast their way back into the game, hitting two solo home runs to make it 6-3. But after Tyler Ogle hit a double in the gap to make it 6-4 in the ninth, Cody Reine flew out to left to end the game.
