So what exactly is The 17 Day Diet and how could a college student like yourself follow it?

The 17 Day Diet is a carb cycle diet. What that essentially means is that you keep your carb grams at a set limit depending upon the phase of the diet you are in. Some days, you’ll keep those carbs super low – egg whites and turkey bacon for breakfast anyone? – and some days you’ll get to indulge in your favorite serotonin-packed comfort foods.

The 17 Day Diet is based on physiology and metabolism. Dr. Moreno’s 17 day plan is designed to reset your metabolism so that you’re burning fat, rather than muscle, and quelling those ravenous cravings for fried mozzarella sticks or a box of Cap’n Crunch cereal.

If you’re on board with The 17 Day Diet food plan, but hate the gym, don’t worry. True to its themed name, The 17 Day Diet has a 17-minute exercise workout that you can do from your dorm room or the living room of your apartment.

And for those of you who need to know just how qualified Dr. Mike Moreno is to be telling you how to lose weight, his education background is pretty solid. Dr. Moreno, better known as “Dr. Mike,” is a graduate of the University of California at Irvine and Hahnemann Medical School, now Drexel University. After completing his residency at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, California, he started his family medicine practice in San Diego, where he is also a member of the board for the San Diego Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

    I am 55 years old and I’ve been exercising 3 hours a day for one year.
    I HAVEN’T LOST much: only 6 pounds. I eat chicken/fish no pork, no beef. I sometimes have ice cream/chocolate and no fatty sandwiches/food.
    Is my age the reason I am not losing weight?

    Who says the book is $50 … is a lot cheaper.. I am going to try it and see… Gained 50 lbs in one year and I can’t carry it.. I’d eat cat food now if it would help me because NO diet I have tried worked… Wish me luck

    Today is my first day. I just wanted to make sure I was doing the diet correctly. I understand the vegetables and meats but you can have 2 fruits ans 2 probodtics. Is that anytime before 2:00 pm and can you have caffine free diet cokes

    I’ve been on the diet for 8 days and have lost 9 piunds and I love it but would love to have some recipes for the turkey chili and taco salad, where do I go to get them? Do you have a website for them, thank you?

    I wouldn’t say this is a fad diet. It’s about eating smart people!! Lean protein, veggies & fruit. Hello, this is what everyone should be eating!!! If people would cut out the bad carbs & sugar then exercise, you’d be good to go!! I, on the other hand, have a hard time following that. BUT, I’m going to start the “17 day diet” . I’m not buying the book. I think I’ve found enough info online to do it without spending money on the book!

    Just another diet fad. It’s plain, and simple people. Eat whatever you want. Just don’t go over 1300 calories if your a female, and 1500 for a guy approx. These diets are so stupid. Of course drink all the water you can. So you feel fuller. Of course you will lose weight if you cut down on calories. Again I ate whatever I wanted just cut it in 1/2 and lost 50 lbs in 4 months. So please don’t spend 50 bucks.
    Again… less calories, and do some type of physical activity during the day.

    I’ve been on the 17 Day Diet for 13 days now (including Christmas) and I have lost 9lbs. I am a busy college student and dread going to the gym. There I feel self conscious and tend to stop going after two days. The first 17 days are the hardest for me because I am a emotional eater with heavy starches and sweets, especially during finals week. But I have combined it with an online food diary. I have chosen to use the one at The combination of the two have helped me stay on track. YES I have had a couple of pieces of candy to satisfy my cravings, but overall, I feel it is a success. I bought the dvd with it, but have not used it yet. I have have simply decided to jump rope for 15-20 min a day. At some point I’ll probably try it, but right now I like the gradual weight loss I’ve been achieving. I highly recommend it but it all depends on what you are comfortable with. Good Luck!!

    You can avoid the $50 price tag for the book. If you are going to be eating natural food, and no sugar or fast food, and exercise everyday, you will lose weight. Duh! And tagging on to Christy’s comment above about Drs. Moreno and Phil being friends, you know they have to be because Dr. Phil is all about no diet, just smart eating.

    Don’t buy that book! It’s not better than any other diet. It’s only the big thing right now becouse of dr Phil show. Dr Phil and dr Moreno are friends that’s why they promoted that book on the show. But if you are really looking for a weight loss programm then i’d use the program what hollywood trainers are using! Hope that’s helping! Bye-bye!

    Sounds like another low carb diet but hey they work
