Worst College Drinking Trends of 2010

College is the time to do stupid stuff or, rather, to drink stupid stuff, right? The year 2010, especially, was a year for college students to drink some pretty crazy concoctions. While Four Loko landed several students in the hospital, Suicide Shots may have caused others to hurl into the toilet.

Check out this list of drinking trends that will hopefully expire in 2011:

Suicide shots: Probably the most uncomfortable way to take a tequila shot: Snort the salt, down the shot and squirt the lime into your eye.

Drive-thru daiquiris: Don’t ask me how it’s legal, but apparently, in Louisiana, you can purchase these fruity drinks from a drive-thru window. Sure, you can get drunk in the parking lot, but how do you plan on getting home?

The Best Oktoberfest Celebrations in the U.S.

OktoberfestAsk almost any college student what their favorite type of beer is, and you are likely to get a long babble about a particular brand or style and how this beer is the best beer in the world. However, we college students don’t know squat about beer compared to the Germans.

In Germany, there is a 16-day long festival devoted to beers, drinking beer, singing songs about beer, and just about any other beer-related activity you can think of. What is this fantastic beer-belly-inducing celebration called? Oktoberfest!

The original Oktoberfest is held in Munich, Germany every September. It is also the world’s largest fair, with around six million people attending every year. This year is the 200th anniversary of Oktoberfest, and the celebrations will start on September 18 and last until October 4, 2010. Read the rest of this entry »



Ten College Foods You Miss

kraft mac and cheeseAs a university and sorority alumnae, some of my fondest memories of my college career involve sitting around eating, drinking and chatting with my friends.

And while my friends and I sometimes made a conscious effort to be healthy, we often fell victim to the ease, convenience, and cheap options readily available on campus.

Now, out of college, I find myself often craving these nostalgic foods that I used to indulge in.

1. Mac and cheese: Call me a sucker for the blue box, but there is only one other meal (see below) I would rather indulge in than a big bowl of cheesy good stuff. Whether it was Easy Mac or the little cartoon shapes, my friends and I could hardly ever resist our childhood favorite.
