How to Make a Three Course Dinner in Your Dorm

Sick of eating Hot Pockets and microwavable pizza? Living in a dorm with just a microwave to serve as your only cooking appliance isn’t easy. When you go grocery shopping, you probably go straight to the freezer section, but tonight skip the frozen dinner and prepare this three course meal in your dorm. Heck, you could even host your own dinner party. All recipes yield four servings, and none of them require a stove.

Appetizer: Fruit-topped crackers

  • 10 crackers
  • 4 table spoons of cream cheese (fruit flavored or plain)
  • 1 cup of blueberries and sliced strawberries

Spread cream cheese on crackers and top with fruit.

Cheap Easy Meals You Can Make in the Dorms

It’s the end of the week, and you have less than $20 to your name. It’s time to eat, but your stomach soon growls as you notice that all that’s left is moldy leftovers and a box of saltines. Sound familiar?

Before you go begging your roommates for free food, check out this list of easy meals you can make that won’t break the bank:

Fruit smoothie: This could be a snack or a meal if you double the portion size. Combine milk, yogurt, a frozen banana and some honey into a blender. These tasty treats are perfect to sip on while you’re walking to your next class.

Breakfast burritos: Cook scrambled eggs by zapping them in the microwave. Add salsa and cheese and place on a tortilla. Eggs are a cheap way to get that much needed protein, and tortillas are a college staple because they last longer than bread.

Get Creative with Mac and Cheese

If you’re living in a dorm, you probably find yourself eating mac and cheese at least twice a week. Sure it’s cheap, but aren’t your taste buds getting bored?

Read these tips on how to add some zing to that little blue box:

Hamburger mac: Add a pound of cooked ground beef to your cheese and noodles.

Tex-Mex mac: Stir in a package of taco seasoning and ground beef to have your in-dorm fiesta.

BBQ mac and cheese: All you need is some KC Masterpiece and Little Smokies to add some flavor to your quick-fix supper.

Mac and cheese in Alfredo sauce: Swap out that powdery yellow substance for some already-made Alfredo sauce.
