Dakota Fanning Crowned High School Homecoming Queen

Dakota Fanning, who’s real name is actually Hannah Dakota Fanning, is no stranger to winning awards and being crowned a starlet, in fact she’s been a Hollywood household name since she was seven years old.

This past weekend however, the young actress known most recently for her work in the Twilight Saga mega hit movies added another notable American girl’s dream to her list of accomplishments.

Recently a Marie Claire cover model, 16 year-old high schooler Fanning was announced as the Campbell Hall Episcopal High School’s 2010 Homecoming Queen in North Hollywood, California. Home of the Vikings, the private school’s football quarterback, Henry Aleck, was also crowned as the Homecoming King.

Boasting a bouquet of roses, a blue sash, and a tiara in a white dress covered in gold studded hardware with tights, Fanning looked to be beaming with pride as she walked alongside her king at the announcement ceremony.

Fanning is also currently on the school’s varsity cheerleading squad. Read the rest of this entry »

The weather outside is getting a bit chilly, and you know what that means… fall football and high school homecoming dance season is just around the corner!

September 9-16, 2010 in Manhattan the infamous Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week shows were held at the event’s new venue location, Lincoln Center, and designers didn’t disappoint with the gorgeous dresses they showcased at the world’s most talked about fashion event.

While most of the gowns will be worn by Hollywood starlets to the Grammys and the Oscars, there will be a substantially high number of teenage girls wanting the looks for their homecoming dances this coming fall.

This year, “less is more” seemed to be a common theme, as the dresses were shorter in length but bigger in designs. It was apparent that bright and bold colors were the biggest trends, followed by textured dresses and sharp tailoring. Read the rest of this entry »

High School Homecoming a Rite of Passage

This past Saturday was my final high school homecoming. So weird to think about how after Saturday night’s events were over, that was the last time I would experience things related to the high school homecoming. Although I realize college’s have their own homecoming, something about this is being part of the whole high school experience. It’s like a ritual every student goes through. Freshman year it’s exciting and new and you have no idea what’s going to happen, and by the time senior year rolls around, homecoming is an excuse to get pampered and have a good time with friends. Homecoming Spirit Week!

All year, I anticipate the Monday morning I get to roll out of my bed, brush my teeth and hair, slip on shoes, and walk out my front door in my PJs because of Spirit Week!

Every year, we have spirit week before our 2 homecomings and prom! This year the weekdays’ themes include Twin Day, PJ Day, Hippie/70s day, Blue and White day, and College Sport day. Although the days aren’t the most creative, I still enjoy showing school spirit by dressing up for 3 or 4 of the days, if not all 5! This year for twin day, I surprised my band director by dressing up like him. If you knew Mr. Hamant, you would understand just how funny this really is. That is the most I have ever seen him laugh all 4 years I have been around him.

Spirit week is so much fun because not only do you get to show school spirit and dress ridiculous some days, it also sets the mood for homecoming! I am so excited for homecoming because it will be one of the last for high school I attend! It’s sad to think about, but also exciting because this time next year I’ll have started college! So spirit week has so many different meanings to me. But most of all it gets me pumped up for the homecoming game Friday night and the homecoming dance on Saturday night! It’s a great time to hang out with my friends and forget about everything for one night. I can’t wait to get the party started!
