Four Boys Die in South African School for the Blind Fire

Tragedy struck in Johannesburg, South Africa when four young boys were killed in a fire at the only school for the blind in the province. The victims’ ages ranged from eight to 13-years-old, and they were locked in their dormitory room when the fire occurred. Charges could be filed against school officials due to the students being in a room that was locked from the outside. The victims were found huddled against their room door.

The caretaker of the school has been suspended and an investigation is being done to determine why the victims’ room was locked from the outside. Whether or not locking students in their room is a routine practice is also under investigation.
