Duke’s Reputation Tarnished From Sexual Joke Thesis Project

Twenty-two-year-old Duke University spring 2010 graduate Karen Owen has tarnished the reputation of the prestigious  school, according to critics, by writing a fake thesis presentation about her sexual encounters with 13 of the school’s athletic students.

“It makes me ashamed that the Duke name is attached to what she’s done. And it’s the age-old double standard: people are more critical of what she did because she’s a girl,” Duke senior Nicole Queathem told the NY Times.

The 42-page PowerPoint slideshow presentation reportedly started out as a joke, and was only sent to friends of Owen. But, of course, as things do in this day and age, the thesis went viral and exploded across the Internet, becoming a public relations nightmare for the university, upsetting parents, faculty and students across the campus. Critics say the presentation was an invasion of privacy for the players who were unwittingly involved in the joke, and an embarrassment to the school’s classy and honorable reputation. College Lacrosse Team Supports Gay Captain

gay prideLacrosse is a very rough sport. Oneonta College’s men’s lacrosse team is one of the toughest teams who play it. The men have a reputation for being tough and menacing; the head coach, Dan Mahar, admits his players are seen as being “rough around the edges.”

Surprisingly though, these men are incredibly accepting and tolerant.

Huh? Doesn’t really fit the bill, right? Let me explain.

University of Virginia’s Women’s Lacrosse Team Member Murdered

At 2:15 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 police were called to the off-campus apartment of Yeardley Love, 22, a member of the University of Virginia’s women’s lacrosse team, a team considered to be a promising contender to advance to the national semifinals of the NCAA tournament.

Love was found in her bed by her roommate as to what was described as a possible alcohol overdose, but witnesses reported that there was obvious physical trauma to her body.

Police in Charlottesville, Virginia have arrested a University of Virginia men’s lacrosse player, George Huguely, 22, and charged him with first-degree murder after searching his home from sufficient probable cause warrants. The men’s lacrosse team is ranked high nationally and is expected to be the first team in heading into this month’s NCAA tournament.
