Education Backgrounds: Members of U2

Members of the Band U2U2 is an Irish rock band from Dublin. The band was formed in 1976 when drummer, Larry Mullen posted a “musicians wanted” notice on the school bulletin board. The teenagers went on to be a world wide sensation. Producing twelve albums, multiple hit songs, and appearing in several world tours over the last 3 decades, their music is well known around the world.

Paul David Hewson, most commonly known by his stage name, Bono, was born May, 10, 1960 in Dublin. He is the son of Brendan Robert “Bob” Hewson and Iris Hewson. Bono has one brother, Norman Robert Hewson. Bono attended the local primary school, Glasnevin National School. He then attended Mount Tremple Comprehensive School, as did his future fellow band mates. Bono is the lead singer for U2 and is also known for his humanitarian efforts.

Randy Jackson’s Education Background

randy jacksonRandy Jackson was born on June 23, 1956 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is best known for his musical talents and his role as a judge on American Idol, where he has been complimenting contestants by calling them “dawg” since 2002. He is also the executive producer for MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.

Jackson attended Southern University in Baton Rouge. He graduated in 1979 with a BA in music. Jackson has appeared on more than 1000 albums, putting his degree to good work by playing bass and keyboards.  He also taught recording industry classes at UCLA for several years in the 1990s.

Jackson has been married twice. He has one child, Taylor, with his first wife, Elizabeth Jackson and two children, Zoe and Jordan, with his second wife, Erika Riker. Read the rest of this entry »

Protect Music in Public Schools

As I sit here listening to my best friend play away on her flute, practicing for college auditions that are coming up in February, it makes me not only wonder how many hours she has devoted to her playing, but also why music has been removed from elementary schools and why fine arts seems to be so under funded.

It amazes me that not only is my friend an incredible flute player, in my opinion, but there are also many other skills that can be learned from practicing as much as she and my other friends who play instruments have obtained. Such skills and traits as dedication, perseverance, and attention to detail. Such dedication many of my friends exhibit through their practicing is also exhibited in many other aspects of their lives, such as school. They are able to balance between school and their instruments and other activities, and many of them are also in International Baccalaureate, so it amazes me how much time some of them can find in their crazy schedules to practice as much as they do. For example, my friend I are currently listening to practices on average of two hours a day. Many days it’s much longer, until she can no longer move her hands! Read the rest of this entry »
