Miss America Teresa Scanlan’s Education Background

Brains and beauty? Obviously nobody ever told the newest Miss America that you can’t have both, because she definitely has the combination.

Teresa Scanlan, 17-years old, was crowned Miss America on January 15, 2011. Scanlan represented Nebraska in the beauty pageant and is the first contestant from that state to become Miss America. EDUinReview will now take a look at this beautiful woman’s education background and future.

Scanlan recently graduated from high school in Gering, Nebraska where she was home-schooled for most of her life. During the second semester of her junior year, she started attending Gering High School. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School, ahead of schedule, because she took a double load of classes throughout high school.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Move to Big 10

nebraska cornhuskersThe Big 10 now has twelve teams. The Big 12 has ten. It’s just another day in college football, as the Nebraska Cornhuskers applied for membership in the Big 10 in the latest move in college football’s widespread realignment and were accepted.

The Cornhuskers bring a rich tradition, solid academic reputation, and a piece of the¬†Midwest media market to the Big 10. The Big 10 expands their reach, and, even if they don’t get anyone else to join, have enough members to create a lucrative conference title game.

Best Rivalries in College Football

When I was in school in Gainesville, there wasn’t a bigger game than when the Gators played Florida State. Except when we played University of Georgia on neutral territory, aptly nicknamed the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.” Even in recent years when both the Seminoles and the Bulldogs have been no match for the Gators, those games were still the highlight of the season, if only for the ultimate bragging rights.

ohio state michigan rivalryI recently came across a poll ranking some of the biggest college football rivalries, and above all others, Michigan and Ohio State were the clear winners. This game attracts national interest because most games have determined the Big Ten Conference title as well as the Rose Bowl match ups, and have also influenced the outcome of the national championship. ESPN ranked this game in 2000 as the greatest North American sports rivalry. Hands down, everyone agrees on the Number 1 spot, but there is a lot of discrepancy on who else should make the list. I did some research, and then asked some sports fan friends their opinions. This is what we came up with.

1. Ohio State vs. Michigan – Ohio State players get a gold charm in the shape of a pair of pants if they win. Since 1913, the two teams have combined for all or part of 70 Big Ten titles and have finished 1-2 in the standings 15 times since 1968. Read the rest of this entry »
