Oscar De La Hoya’s Education Background

Boxer Oscar de la HoyaOscar De La Hoya was born on February 4, 1973 in Montebello, California. De La Hoya comes from a line of boxers. His grandfather Vincente, father Joel Sr., and brother Joel Jr. were all boxers. De La Hoya attended Ford Boulevard Elementary School in Los Angeles.

De La Hoya’s amateur career was very successful. At the age of seventeen, De La Hoya won the U.S. National Championship at featherweight and was the youngest U.S. boxer at the 1990 Goodwill Games. There, De La Hoya won the gold medal. De La Hoya also took home the Olympic gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. De La Hoya was the only U.S. boxer to take home a medal from the Barcelona games.

De La Hoya’s professional career began in November 1992. In his twelfth professional fight, De La Hoya won his first world title, he was only 20 years old. De La Hoya went on to win the WBO junior lightweight title.
