The Top Up-and-Coming Schools in the USA

US News College Rankings LogoOf course, there are always going to be schools that are acknowledged as being the best of the best. Usually, they have a long, proud history of being distinguished as one of the greatest schools in the USA. Many of these schools have been around for a long time, like Yale and Harvard. However, there are some new kids on the block who might be able to give the old-timers a run for their money.

U.S. News recently announced their Top Schools in the USA. There were several subcategories this year, and one of these subcategories was the best up-and-coming schools, aka the new kids on the block. These schools were nominated by their peers because they are seen as making the most promising or innovative changes in areas such as student life, academics, and faculty.

When I was in college at the University of Central Florida I took a class called The Physics of Super Heroes that used comic book series to parallel, explain and engage students in the laws of physics. I didn’t particularly like comic books but I thought the class would be easier than a regular physics class.

It seems I wasn’t the only student looking for the quantum equation explained in layman’s terms.

According to the NY Times, at Harvard University there is a course in the undergraduate catalog known as From Haute Cuisine to Soft Matter Science, but instead of comic book characters, the class utilizes the kitchen to teach chemistry and physics fundamentals. Read the rest of this entry »



Playboy Bunny Poses in UCF Locker Room [Suggestive Video]

Shanna McLaughlin at UCFAs a graduate of the University of Central Florida, I heard first hand about the controversial Playboy bunny photo shoot on campus.

When business administration student Shanna Marie McLaughlin, Playboy’s Miss July 2010, was shot in the UCF football team’s locker room for her aXis Magazine cover spread it was a dream come true for teenage boys dreaming of naked Playboy bunnies posing in their locker room, and it was a nightmare for the university’s public image.

UCF officials have released an apology to fans, students and parents for the incident.

“An employee without proper authorization allowed access to our football locker room. By the time the video of the shoot was brought to our attention, it had already made its rounds via the internet,” UCF Associate Athletic Director Joe Hornstein’s told the Orlando Sentinel.
