The Top 10 Liberal Arts Colleges in the USA

Williams College SealU.S. News recently released their lists of the top colleges in the USA. One of the lists that they released focused solely on Liberal Arts Colleges.

So how did U.S. News determine what makes an excellent liberal arts school? The scores are based partially on the quality of the education that students receive at the institutions and the financial burden families must take on in order to offer this education to their students. All schools that are regionally accredited and for-profit institutions are considered for this honor if they have respond to the statistical survey that U.S. News sends out each year. The students’ level of satisfaction is also taken into consideration, since U.S. News know that no raw set of data can truly evaluate a school’s value.

USA Falling Behind in College Attainment Rates

Two years ago, President Obama announced plans to make the USA a leading country in the international education race by 2020. Many people were excited for this hope to become reality, but it seems like we might be slipping farther away from our goal.

According to a new report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, less Americans are completing their college education than young adults in other countries. This has made us fall from 12th to 16th place in the share of young adults (ages 25-34) who have earned a degree. The countries who are leading the race in this younger demographic are South Korea, Canada, and Japan.

Why is America slipping behind other countries in college attainment rates? There are two explanations for this. One is that more and more people are attending college in Asia and Europe than ever before. Another factor is that these foreign nations focus on education degrees that take less time to complete; instead of the four-year plans that many college in the USA follow, colleges in other countries offer many one-year or two-year degree plans.

Unique Spring Break Road Trip Destinations

Spring Break is almost here! However, if you are like me, your semester has been way too busy to plan ahead and make reservations at your favorite Caribbean island for the week. Also, let’s face it, we are college students and that might be a little too steep for our budgets.

So, what are we to do for a fun Spring Break? Two words: road trip! Road trips are a great option for Spring Break because they can be done quite cheaply (four friends splitting a Motel 6 and gas money does not add up too quickly), you get to spend a lot of time with the people you are with (so make sure you like them), and you can see a lot of the country that you might not have seen before (this land is your land, so get familiar with it).
