Annual award for undergraduate students, who have overcome a hardship or handicap, that plan to pursue postsecondary education at an accredited college or university. Applicant must demonstrate characteristics of a pioneer, i.e. faith, courage, endurance and family values. Student must have overcome significant disadvantages such as physical, social or economic challenges. Candidate must have financial need, and evidence that they have the skill and motivation to succeed in college. Award will be given to top candidate, and some chapters may recognize one or two runner-ups. Due date and number of awards varies.
