McGraw-Hill Digitizes with ONboard Series to Help Students Study for AP Exams

Did you know that almost 50 percent of students who take an AP exam are not going to pass? That certainly has to be a frustrating factoid for those test takers. If only there was something they could do in order to improve their chances of passing those tests….Oh wait, there is now, thanks to McGraw-Hill Education.

McGraw-Hill Education has a new digital program, the ONboard Series, which is an “all-digital learning solution designed to improve students’ performance in AP classes and on exams by developing the skills they need to succeed before they enter the course.” This program is just one more step on McGraw-Hill’s journey to become the leader in education innovation.

According to the Jeff Livingston, senior vice president of College and Career Readiness at McGraw-Hill Education, many of the students who take AP classes do not pass the tests because they are not prepared for the rigorous coursework and expectations that come along with the classes. This then leads to them not preparing as well as they should for the exams. Inkling Gets Support from Major Publishers to Create Digital Textbooks

Inkling Digital TextbooksInkling, the digital textbook startup, announced that it has won backing from two of the biggest textbook publishers. Among other investors, McGraw-Hill and Pearson are now giving Inkling access to an estimated 95 percent of textbooks available on the market today. However, Inkling’s production will only have about 100 titles, available only on the iPad, ready by the fall.

Currently, Inkling’s relatively slow rate of production is due to the company’s desire to create an interactive textbook that goes above and beyond the digital textbooks that are currently available. According to chief executive and founder Matt MacInnis, the new apps only use the existing textbook as a framework that ultimately casts off “the shackles of the book.” He argues that most digital textbooks are little more than PDF files of the original texts. “It only gets interesting when the content itself changes and begins to respond to your fingertips,” MacInnis said. He wants to work with authors to create new content that’s specifically built for the iPad.

Apple Might Partner with McGraw-Hill on New Tablet

mcgraw hill logoWithin the next few days, Apple is expected to release its newest multimedia gadget, the Tablet. This device will allow users to play games, surf the web, watch TV, check out the latest headlines from The New York Times, or read their textbooks.

Supposedly, education publisher McGraw-Hill is discussing a partnership with Apple. The goal is to create e-book versions of its textbooks on the Tablet, similar to the textbooks that are now available on Amazon’s Kindle.

It is quite obvious why McGraw-Hill would want their books and services on the Tablet.
